Here is one of the greatest English comic novels read by incontrovertible king of English comic audiobook readers, Martin Jarvis. Three men, worried about their health and in search of different experiences, set off 'up the river' in a boat. Jerome's delightful novel, dating from 1900, paints a vivid picture of innocent fun.

I'd forgotten just how much fun this book is - amusing, innocent, winsome and excellently narrated by Martin Jarvis. The description of Harris attempting to sing a comic song is superb - I burst out laughing. So much fun in these depressing, Covid-obsessed times. Wonderful escapism - Thank you..

Excellent narration - well done Jarvis

I have always wanted to read this but never got round to it. So happy I listened to this amazing version. I haven't stopped chuckling. Martin Jarvis is brilliant

Written with a wit and dry humour that is still fresh today, I thoroughly enjoyed this gentle story. The book relies on the humorous telling of every day events in the 1890's and so is very much "of a time", which, in my opinion, Martin Jarvis captures perfectly.
I have read that the book was originally meant to be a serious guide to the journey taken - mentioning the scenery, historic landmarks and recommending pubs, however, they ended up taking very much a back seat to the side stories of the passengers and their hapless exploits.

A gentle, humorous and enjoyable read

The writing is somewhat dated, obviously, but no less funny. Very enjoyable.
