Throne of Secrets was one of my most anticipated fantasy releases this year, and I couldn’t wait for my FairyLoot edition to arrive. So, naturally, I did what any excited bookworm would do: I picked up the regular paperback and the audiobook so I could start it ASAP.

With my love for Kerri Maniscalco’s Kingdom of the Wicked series and Throne of the Fallen, my expectations were high. But for some reason, it took me a while to really get into this one. I pushed through, though, and in the end, I enjoyed it—though maybe not as much as I’d hoped. Looking back, I think I would have connected more if I’d just read the physical copy alone. The audiobook’s female narrator didn’t quite work for me (nothing personal; her voice reminded me of a teacher, which made Adriana sound older than I imagined).

What I loved was the mashup of Cinderella, Gossip Girl, and The Selection but with a demonic twist. It was a unique blend that only Maniscalco could pull off! The wicked, twisted fairy tale vibe really shines here, and it’s impossible not to enjoy the dangerous chemistry between Gabriel and Adriana, even if the story didn’t become an obsession for me in the end.

In Throne of Secrets, we follow Gabriel Axton, Prince of Gluttony and master of indulgence, as he realizes something dark and deadly is creeping into his court. The only person who might help him uncover the truth is the fiery journalist Adriana Saint Lucent, who’s spent years on a mission to expose him. But with looming dangers and deep secrets between them, they must set aside their rivalry to save the kingdom—though they may end up questioning just how much they actually despise each other after all.

Overall, Throne of Secrets had all the drama and dark vibes I’ve come to expect from Kerri Maniscalco. It may not have enchanted me quite like her other books, but if you’re into fantasy romance with a wicked twist and some serious chemistry, this one’s worth the read!
