About this listen

Go home. This is not a place for anyone to wander, especially where shadows conceal the truth and predators hide in plain sight.

It’s been a year since Willow Avery vanished without a trace during a family outing. One moment, she was walking with her siblings through a crowded fairground; the next, she was gone. Despite the authorities giving up, Belle and her brother, Jackson, refuse to stop searching, determined to uncover what happened to Willow.

A promising lead draws them south, to Savannah, and then Miami, plunging them into a treacherous underworld they couldn’t have imagined. As they unravel the mystery, they uncover a pattern of disappearances eerily similar to Willow’s case, and time is running out for the other missing girls.

For Belle, the search becomes deeply personal, pushing her into the very nightmare her sister endured. What begins as a mission to find Willow turns into a deadly battle for survival. There are no guarantees—but Belle will risk everything for the chance to bring her sister home.

I picked this up because I enjoy mysteries where ordinary people have to solve the crime themselves rather than waiting on the police. The dynamic between the siblings felt very grounded, and the shift from Savannah to the darker side of Miami gave the whole story a gritty atmosphere that I really liked.

At times I felt like the main characters made some decisions that were a little too reckless. There were definitely moments where I questioned how they got out of certain situations so easily without professional help.

However that recklessness actually heightened the suspense because you could feel how desperate they were to find their sister. It kept the pacing incredibly fast. If you want a thriller that moves quickly and pulls on your heartstrings, this is a solid choice.

I really enjoyed this plot, which was high level, a sister who vanished, and their siblings are looking for her down the East Coast through Savannah and Miami. The books show how far a family will go to find their missing loved ones. Plus, the descriptions of both Savannah and Miami helped to bring the story to life.
