About this listen

FROM THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Thrown Away Child
is a memoir covering Louise Allen’s abusive childhood in a foster home, how she survived - using her love of art as a sanctuary - and how she hopes to right old wrongs now by fostering children herself and campaigning for the improvement of foster care services. It is a compelling and inspirational story. This book gives a voice to the many children who grew up unhappily in care.

Listening to Louise’s story is difficult at times hearing the neglect and abuse and how many times she could have been saved

Louise is living proof that you can go on and have a happy healthy life and parent as you would have wanted to be patented without the excuse of a bad childhood
Her drive and determination to succeed and not give in is truly remarkable

Thank you for sharing Louise and the wonderful work you & you’re family do for others in need of a safe secure home

Louise is an inspiration. How she could go through so much abuse and still forgive is beyond me. How Barbara was allowed to foster and adopt is also beyond me. Social services, hospitals and schools failed Louise and poor William. Child abuse is everyone's responsibility to speak up and protect the vulnerable. So many turned a blind eye to what was happening it makes me sick. Thank goodness for Sean he sounds like an absolute gem. Despite what she has endured, Louise isn't perpetuating the abuse cycle unlike Barbara and is turning her trauma into positive ways to help others like her as sadly there are still far too many.
