The readers characterisations are poor, hackneyed and lack a sense of realism or integrity, they’re stereotypical.

This is a fun sci-fi story and is classic Baxter, but the narrator is awful and comes up with such strange voices for characters that it makes listening an unpleasant experience.

What a mind bending story! Thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. It’s a shame the that whilst the tone and pace of the narration is brilliant, it’s completely let down by the silly voices used for the female characters.

A lot of people have complained about the narration, however, while the voices are a bit goofy I believe the narrator does a good job brining live to the characters and making that sound distinct.

The story is another great addition in the sequence.

I’ve been waiting for this book to be made into an audiobook for decades. I love Baxter’s books. I feel like the fans of his works were severely let down by the choice of narrator. He makes the characters sound…how to put this politely…comical? A parody of itself? Absolutely imbecilic? I persevered only because I love the story but if I were the author I would actually sue Audible for loss of profit.
