About this listen

It will take everything to kill a god.

For the first time in decades, peace is almost within Emaneska's grasp. With Loki in hiding and Scalussen finally left to its own devices, it is a time to flourish and grow. To put weapons aside and build homes instead.

But weapons like Farden and Mithrid only rust in peace, especially when there are enemies to be buried and questions to be answered.

While Mithrid dreams of an impending fire and her destiny hangs in question, Farden's mind grows dangerous and desperate. Scalussen holds nothing but doubt. The gods ask the impossible, and Loki has found an ancient and terrifying shadow in the east that could rival Gunnir. A shadow that could be of Farden's making.

Gambling everything, Mithrid must suffer her greatest test while Farden raises new allies from the dust and the farthest corners of the world. The battle to end all battles awaits, and this time, there will be no second chances. There will be no surrender. There will be victory or there will be death for all.

Ragnarök is coming.

One of my favourite narrators,i downloaded the trilogy due to thoroughly enjoying other books narrated by Matthew Lloyd Davies, i wasnt disapointed. The books are entertaining and engaging with a good pace but not so fast it feels rushed. Theres a few 'didnt see that coming' moments and the trilogy comes neatly to an end with no unanswered questions. Each main character gets a moment of clarity and the ending they deserve and the ending i hoped they would get. The lesbian relationship is beautifully done, some books make it feel like an LBGTQ couple is just plonked in the story for diversity sake but the character development is so natural and critical for the flow of the story it would take something from the book if it wasnt there. Overall a well written trilogy that really develops characters you can relate to from Lokis narcissism to Fardens hidden vulnerability and doubts through to Mithrid trying to find her purpose and all the doubts, guilt and humanity that plaque us all.
Hightly recommend the Scallasson trilogy, i hope the first three books are as good although its a different narrator.

I’m genuinely speechless. Such an incredible final book to a story I’ve followed for a decade. Highly recommend this and all of Ben Galley’s books.

This series of books was so severely captivating, I truly cannot think of another author, apart from the late great Sir Pratchett, that kept me rushing back to listen to some more, every moment I could.
