About this listen

Kara Gillian is in some seriously deep trouble.

She’s used to summoning supernatural creatures from the demon realm to our world, but now the tables have been turned and she’s the one who’s been summoned. Kara is the prisoner of yet another demonic lord, but she quickly discovers that she’s far more than a mere hostage. Yet waiting for rescue has never been her style, and Kara has no intention of being a pawn in someone else’s game.

There’s intrigue to spare as she digs into the origin of the demonic lords and discovers the machinations of humans and demons alike. Kara is shocked to discover that she has her own history in the demon realm, and that the ties between her and the demonic lords Rhyzkahl and Szerain go back farther than she could have ever imagined. But treachery runs rampant among all the lords, and she’s going to have to stay sharp in order to keep from being used to further their own agendas. The lords have a secret that dates back to earth’s ancient history, and it could have devastating repercussions for both worlds.

Yet more than anything else, Kara’s abilities as a homicide detective will be put to the test - because this time the murder she has to solve is her own.

I usually just star rate books but this one deserves a full review. The twists and turns in this storyline were fantastic, Kara was dealt some seriously unexpected blows and while at times I was shouting at her to get a clue (she’s supposed to be a cop after all) I honestly didn’t expect the author to go as far as she did with the storyline, most stay on the side of nothing truly bad quite happens, so I have full respect for an author that can make my jaw drop. Fantastic book, great series

Any additional comments?

It had an interesting yet a little predictable ending, but overall was really great. I prefer the whole cop/investigator stories like this rather than all demon realm.

great

If you've just finished book 4 you will almost certainly be downloading this to see what happens next. If you haven't read book 4 go back and read the series in order !

For me the series really changes gear at this point, and changes from 10 hour books with a detective trying to solve crimes to 20 hour books with much more inter realm activity and the demonic lords suddenly becoming centre stage as our heroine has to work out who she can and cant trust as she tries to get back home. I thought this was a stunning book and one I will almost certainly return to in the future once I have finished the series .

I found this almost impossible to put down and got through the 20 hours in only 3 days which is almost unheard of for me. its a full 10 out of 10.

OK if the overall plot is a little predictable, there are certainly twists I didn't see coming and I just loved it

Liv Anderson is great as the narrator and gets more or less everything spot on

Totally fabulous - the series is now flying
