About this listen

Huge Post-Apocalyptic Disaster Saga of an American Family Surviving a World-Changing Algae Bloom

In a world ravaged by drought, family is all that matters…

Eighteen-year-old Hazel refuses to become another wife and broodmare to the prophet of the Wellspring cult. She’s determined to find a safe haven for her younger brother, Caleb, in a world where 80% of all fresh water has been contaminated by an algae bloom. But if they’re going to survive, they’ll need help.

Scientists Emily and Sam, and wilderness guide Bash, might just be the kind of people they can count on. But a lifetime of isolation makes it near impossible for Hazel to trust outsiders. Even if they may be her only hope of breaking free from the prophet’s clutches.

A remote forest cabin seems to be the perfect base of operations to plan their escape. But when the cult’s soldiers come searching for them, Hazel must draw upon all her strength and skill to protect Caleb.

With her brother’s life hanging in the balance, she'll risk everything to save him - even if it means taking on the maniacal cult by herself.

I read a lot of post apocalyptic dystopia so thought I’d list much heard it all. The trilogy is just a bit different though. The characters are new, but so are the challenges facing them. I actually found my brain aligning with some if the worries, I’ve not had that since I saw a plant that looked like a triffid. The audiobooks are a good length - I did find myself listening to them at 1.2x to get just the right pace - but getting the trilogy as a set was a total win.

The authors are new to me but they’re going on my to-read list!.

This 3rd part of the Toxic Tides Saga is one about hope, where it was even unthinkable, a flame rises and our group clungs onto it!

I loved this series as a whole, the first part is an explanation and introduction of the characters, a new found family coming together in desperate times.

The send book is about the cult and the group is running and hiding to survive.

The third book brings hope. A beautiful conclusion!

Grave Hamilton is a master in this, she created the right atmosphere to impress her readers from beginning to end!

Hope after disaster, loyalty and family sticking together!

This title gives you the three books within the series in the correct order and with consistent narration. These are: No Safe Water; Into the Mire and Deadwater. The two main hero groups are the 17 year old young woman looking after her 8 year old brother and escaping a restrictive and dictatorial cult built around water as a purification and a group of scientists with their wilderness guide. The first book tells us how these come together and begin to accommodate to each other because the water everywhere seems to have become poisoned so even its touch can become harmful to health. The second book is mainly about the cult's leader and his obsession with expansion of his power and influence as well as reclaiming the escaped pair. I think this would not work so well as a standalone and there were a few plot glitches, so this is why not the full five for story. There are many physical and moral hardships faced by our hero group with themes of loyalty, support, acceptance, diversity and overcoming selfishness and self interest. There is a resolution in the final book and what may have seemed impossible in the earlier books became a hope. Survival ideas and tips are salted throughout the text, which adds interest and value.
The narrator does an excellent job of voicing male, female and child voices including the speech as described in the text. It also helps that the character's point of view for that chapter is announced at the start of each.
