One hot Monday morning in 1976, Albert Spaggiari had engineered the European crime of the century.

A bank president in Nice, France found his vault welded shut—from the inside—with a note left behind that read, "Without guns, without violence, without hate." Spaggiari and his gang of 20 men had dug a 25-foot tunnel from the city's sewer system into the bank, where they spent a weekend cooking meals, drinking wine, and clearing millions of dollars in gold, jewelry, gems, and cash. Here is the breathtakingly compelling story of Spaggiari, his “sewer gang,” and the most daring, outrageous theft of the 20th century.

I enjoyed the chronological delivery of the narrative and the questions left unanswered. Always enjoy hearing about what happens to the characters after the story is told

The nerve of the character

I would have preferred the story to have been recounted as it happened, as opposed to back to front.

A curiously back to front story

Not the usual gripping read from Ken Follett. But the narration by Roddy McDowell was superb. This was a variation of the Great train robbery, very disappointing.

Shame, because I love Ken’s books. I’m sure it is a great read if you can tolerate the overacting and ridiculously exaggerated pronunciation of the French words. Will have to read the book…

Narrator was so annoying that I had to stop listening

Narrators over emphasis of French names and places extremely annoying as well as the mundane reading style ,,, I had to stop listening.
