Summary

Editor's Choice in The Bookseller.

Based on the 'world's spookiest podcast' of the same name comes Unexplained: a book of 10 real-life mysteries which might be best left unexplained....

Demonic possession in 1970s Germany.

UFOs in Rendlesham forest.

Reincarnation in Middlesbrough.

Richard Maclean Smith delves into these mysteries and many more, with a supporting cast bringing to life the unexplained occurrences in this special immersive audio edition.

Based on one of the most successful paranormal podcasts ever, with over 10 million streams and downloads to date, Unexplained consists of 10 chapters focusing on a different paranormal event, from Australia to Germany, the UK to Zimbabwe, using the stories as gateways to a journey beyond the veil of the uncanny, exploring what they reveal of the human experience.

This special immersive audio edition is narrated by Richard MacLean Smith and features full cast re-creations of the unexplained events.

Taking ideas once thought of as supernatural or paranormal and questioning whether radical ideas in science might provide a new but equally extraordinary explanation, Unexplained is The Examined Life meets The X-Files.

Interesting but....

Some of it was interesting but there was a bit too much phylosophical ranting for me! Narration was monotonous and irritating. Maybe 2 good chapters. Don't waste your money.

A bit of a waste of precious listening hours!

An amazing array of wonderfully crafted stories, told respectfully, but with a macabre twist. The background music makes it all the more creepy - don’t listen in the dark

Exceptional

This is a fantastic audio book.

With sharp delivery that demonstrates both a level of scepticism bundled with genuine interest in the stories and a true respect for the people who have reported them, Richard MacLean Smith has produced a highly immersive and emotive experience with the Unexplained book.

If you've heard his podcast (and you should) then this will be mostly familiar ground, boasting the same thought provoking explorations of ideas stories and themes combined with nuanced and respectful delivery.

However it manages to build on the work of the podcast in a very meaningful way, using the longer format to really explore the ideas to a greater level and the added use of voiced segments and sound effects to push this to become an even more genuinely excellent experience than the already excellent podcast is.

Absolutely recommend.

Thoughtful, creepy and meaningful
