About this listen
A woman is on trial for her life, accused of murder. The 12 members of the jury each carry their own secret burden of guilt and prejudice which could affect the outcome.
In this extraordinary crime novel, we follow the trial through the eyes of the jurors as they hear the evidence and try to reach a unanimous verdict. Will they find the defendant guilty or not guilty? And will the jurors' decision be the correct one?
©2017 Estate of Raymond Postgate (P)2018 SoundingsTold in the following 3 parts..the Jurors, of which we learn a little of each and in amongst them we have a hairdresser, an actor, a gay Greek scholar, a murderer and a trade unionist. The Accused and finally the Trial.
Set in the 40s, so it's not to gory or has gratuitous swearing in it, we are treated to a story which flows along nicely. There are moments of comedy plus some ' of the time stereotypes' which is to be expected. On the whole it's a decent who-dun-it but not edge of seat nail biting stuff.
David Thorpe does an excellent job with all the voices.
I'm glad it's been resurrected.
