THE STORIES
City of Lifestone
Raised as a slave in the Darkoath camps of Aqshy, Kiri dreams of a better life. Of a city of wonders, the place of her birth… Lifestone! She despairs of ever reaching it until her barbarian captors are attacked by Sigmar's noblest warriors, the Stormcast Eternals. Seizing her chance, Kiri flees through a mysterious realmgate that takes her far from the fiery lands of Aqshy. She arrives in the realm of Ghyran and finds the city of Lifestone. But a curse lies on this place, withering its noble spirit. Her path leads her to a special group of children who, like her, are realm-marked – the prophesied saviours of Lifestone. There's Thanis, the fighter; Alish, the inventor; Kaspar, the sneak, and Elio, the healer. But dark forces are allying against the children and will do anything to stop them from achieving their destiny.

The story is enjoyable, if sometimes a little predictable, but remember this is an introduction for children aged 6-12 to the fantasy setting of AoS and it does a fantastic job of that.
Even as an adult outside of the demographic the story was aimed at, I did not see any real issues with it, and enjoyed it as something in the background.
The characters all stand out in their own way, which is good. The main villain and her Skaven henchman are a nice overarching narrative threat to be interesting too.
It is a real shame that both Helen McAlpine and Billie Piper did not read all 6 episodes together. As although Billie Piper lacks the deeper range, she was a really good voice actress for the girls, as well as the sung section she did. Equally, Helen McAlpine has a more narrative voice and was better at the boys voices. Both didd a fantastic job and were enjoyable to listen to throughout.
It is a shame there has not been a second series in AoS like this, as it was easy to listen to while painting.
Good introduction story to Warhammers fantasy side

I'm not massively familiar with Age of Sigmar, as I know more about 40k, so I can't judge it's faithfulness to the setting. But while it maintains a kid friendly tone throughout, there's still darkness here. Characters die, one starts as a slave, and good people are shown doing questionable things due to bad circumstances. I think it's best to approach this as how the realms look to a child living in them, rather than the more complex realities of the setting. You can feel the gritter undercurrents pushing against the child-like naivety of the protagonists.
But if you're looking for relatively straight forward heroic fantasy adventure with young protagonists, and aren't too bothered about the setting, with 6 audiobooks for 1 credit or £7.99 you can't really go wrong here.
Not sure how it fares as a Warhammer book, but a very engaging fantasy series
