About this listen

Temp Jobs Can Be Murder!

Love is in the air as Scarlett’s family prepares for her brother’s wedding. She’s blocked out the entire week — no temp jobs for her! Now she can focus on spending time with family and friends as they prepare for the big day. But when a staffing crisis at the caterer’s threatens to leave guests with nothing to eat, Scarlett grudgingly agrees to work the temp job in order to save the wedding. Fortunately, some of her friends sign up to help.

The work environment ends up being terrible, but they all resolve to stick it out for Scarlett’s brother. More plans fall apart due to vandalism, threats, and even murder. Anonymous texts make it clear that Scarlett’s family is being targeted and the wedding is being sabotaged.

Should they cancel everything? Scarlett is determined to stop the saboteur. If she can uncover his identity and solve the murder, everyone can relax and enjoy the wedding. But does she have enough time? Her brother is getting married in just a few days.

Scarlett goes into overdrive, seeking out clues and interviewing suspects. She has to succeed, or no one will be safe.

Murder—unlike her job—isn’t temporary.

Waylaid at the Wedding is the ninth book in the fun and clever Temp Jobs Cozy Mystery Series.

I loved this book. This is the 9th book in the series and I get the feeling it is the last because the long running mystery of who is targeting Scarlett and her family is finally revealed and things are looking up for all the characters. This does work as a standalone because it is a fun story but I think it works EVEN better read as part of the series. Especially as a lot of old temp jobs and people are mentioned and it was fun remembering past books. If this is the last book, I will be sad to see the characters go, as the author has made me fall in love with them over the course of this quirky and original series. I loved all the different jobs the author came up with for Scarlett, it ment each book was different, fresh and gave her plenty of opportunity to create great and unique characters. In this book Scarlett isn't working, with her brother's wedding coming up but plans quickly change and things get interesting. There is a little bit of investigating/working but with somebody sabotaging the wedding plans most of the focus is on reacting to the predicaments/ situations and I loved every minute. I can't wait for the authors next book.

With Scarlett's best friend home for her brother's wedding, Scarlett plans to spend as much time with her as she can. But when the caterer cancels due to lack of staff, Scarlett and her friends find themselves with new temp jobs. The thing is the cancelling of the caterer isn't the only wedding plans go a rye and Scarlett and her family begins to think it's being sabotaged. But would somebody to as far as murder? If looks like it, although the caterer had plenty of enemies with the way she treated her staff. Can Scarlett find a killer, stop the sabotage and get her brother's wedding back on track?

I like the narrator. She made the characters come to life and is a part of why this series was so good . The author and narrator make a good team.

Wow! That was an adventure! The story is exciting and at times nail-biting, with some truly surprising and unsettling twists along the way. The characters are golden, Scarlett is amazing and her relationship with Austen is seriously adorable. I loved the ending, but I am sad that this (probably) is the last book in one of my favourite series. Amber Battaglia does a fantastic job with the narration.

A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.

What an adventure!
