Summary

New mother Lady Georgiana "Georgie" Rannoch finds herself trying to separate fact from fiction when a murder occurs while a film is being made on the grounds of her estate in a new Royal Spyness Mystery from beloved best-selling author Rhys Bowen.

It's late 1936, and King Edward is in turmoil, having fallen in love with the scandalously divorced and even more scandalously American Wallis Simpson. He wants to marry her but knows that doing so will jeopardize his crown. Edward confides in his dear friend Darcy, Georgie's husband, and the couple agree to hide Wallis in their home while Edward figures out what to do.

But unbeknownst to Georgie and Darcy, Sir Hubert, the owner of the estate, has given a film crew permission to shoot a motion picture about Henry the Eighth and Anne Boleyn on the grounds. Trying to keep Mrs. Simpson hidden while raising a newborn baby seems like it couldn't be any more stressful for the Rannochs, until one of the stars of the film is found murdered on set. Georgie must solve the murder for king and country before scandal threatens to envelop them all.

I have loved ALL in this series, and so also this. More than that, this time, I really appreciatet it. Difficult to explain. It walked such a fine line, about what was brewing in Germany, Pointet out, seriousness of what was coming. Without overshadowing the “cozy” mystery. Written so well, that it is as always, a tangled web, of different story, that makes up the mystery. Keep you guessing till the end. Always with a smile, because the main chakerakter creation, always seam to do or say something, that makes you smile… maybe because wee know them so well… if you need a smile Queenie can always be counted on for “a Bob’s your uncle” - and a pot of gravy in someones lap!!
Like it is a great suspense mystery… but it is cozy!
Not like comedy…but still have you smiling, and laughing, with, and at, the karakters we know.
Serious acknowledgment of what is brewing i europe! - without it darkening, any of the story plot.
I think i Like this the best of all. But I am sure that it is the best book in the series.

The best an most integrate in the series!

This was a good cozy mystery, with some fun episodes.
All the familiar characters are back and they are entertaining each with their unique peculiarities… even Fig, the sister in law!

I have been listening this series for some time now and enjoyed most of the books, except the one where they go to Paris which I found very boring, and the last one which was too predictable.

Some parts on this book are predictable too, but overall it was real good company while I was ironing and I just wanted some easy escapism.

Plus I got this book during a 2 books for 1 credit promotion, so I don’t feel too guilty for using one full credit ;)

A pleasant easy listen, better than the last previous ones

I have read all previous books, but felt I was getting rather tired of the self-pitying whinginess displayed by lady Georgiana… the story lacked energy, even the love story element between lady G and her hubby felt a bit ‘soso’…
I began to ‘like’ the sister-in-law who presented with her usual forcefulness, the King’s abdication was handled far too softly… the whole ‘tone’ of the story lacked conviction and energy. I’m a bit disappointed, was looking forward to hearing the book. Maybe my expectations were too high?

A bit disappointed

This was a slow moving, boring story. I forgot why I enjoyed this series so much. This one did not hit the same notes as previous books in the series.

Disappointing

I have enjoyed listening to all the Royal Spyness books but this one was spoiled by a silly mistake, the North Face of the Eiger was not successfully climbed until 1938.

a good read
