About this listen
Grief is the price of love.
When an upscale restaurant opens in Hastings Rock, Dashiell Dawson Dane (just Dash) and his friends are excited to get reservations for the soft open. After all, winter on the Oregon Coast is the quiet season, and Dash is looking forward to a little excitement. (And, of course, dessert.)
Instead, their arrival at the restaurant brings them face to face with Indira’s ex-husband, Mal. And when Mal ends up dead, Indira is the chief suspect.
Dash is sure he can prove Indira’s innocence, but before he has the chance, tragedy strikes Bobby’s family. With Bobby drawn back to Portland, Dash finds himself torn between helping his boyfriend and saving Indira.
And the killer isn’t done yet.

As you can tell I've been reading the series for a while; now on book 10. Yes, at first I was super excited and in love with the series and all the zany characters. Now, with book 10, I'm over it. Millie needs to calm down. I kind of got soured to Keme in book 8, [book:Evil All Along|222889838]; he was such a jerk! And now Bobby is becoming a real jerk! What happened between these two guys? I totally didn't understand why Bobby verbally attacked Dash about the agent rejection letter. That's so stupid!
I would not move to this town because everybody either gets killed, someone you know gets killed, and/or you are accused of being the killer. Just shut down the town, destroy the bridges, and bury it. It's cursed! How big is this town? This is so up Jessica Fletcher's wheelhouse because her town also was full of murder and murderers! If you don't get that reference, you are too young to be reading this book.
The writing as always is solid; no faults there. Just come on with these characters! Gregory is staying true to how they are written from the start but at some point, they all need to realize this is some serious stuff and stop clowning around. The murder mystery, I guess I understood. <spoiler>Mal was a liar and a thief and ruined people's dreams of owning a restaurant and someone took revenge. I wasn't quite clear what killing him accomplished - did he (Mal) even know who killed him or why? I may have missed this part. There was a whole summation at the end with Dash getting annoyed, of course, when others explain what happened not giving Dash a chance to do so. Indira is accused of the murder, crazy stuff happens in the middle, Bobby goes nuts over something that doesn't really concern him and isn't his business. And the killer, instead of just running away gives a monologue of why he did what he did. Good for him? Dude, just run away!
Anyway, I think I need to start taking longer breaks between each of these books to give myself some breathing room. I can't take these crazy people to many hours in a row.
I give the story 4 stars, though I rated it 3 on GR because of how they grade it. I enjoyed the story up to a point because these people are nuts. But the quality of the writing is great. The narration of course if 5 star worthy. I do recommend the series and it must be read in order.
Fun but these characters are exhausting!!

The mystery was one that I absolutely did not guess in any meaningful way! There are a small number of suspects, but I did not really put together the who or the why so really enjoyed the big reveal. One day I just hope Dash is the one who gets to reveal. I'm so so so excited for Fox up next.

Except…
When a tragedy brings Bobby back to Portland, Dash has divided loyalties. He wants to save Indira. He wants to support Bobby. At one point, it feels like he’s failing at both of these things.
Things got rough in the middle of the book and I wondered how it was all going to work out. Now, this is a Gregory Ashe, so I knew well would be the answer. The how was always a mystery to me and this was a good one.
Andrew Gibson is just perfect to narrate these books and I adore him. I can’t wait for the next book!
Just as good
