Critic reviews

"A real humdinger. The best MacLean." ( Daily Mirror)
"There is a splendid audacity about Where Eagles Dare, in which a handful of British agents invade an 'impenetrable' Gestapo command post...MacLean offers a real dazzler of a thriller, with vivid action, fine set pieces of suspense and a virtuoso display of startling plot twists." ( The New York Times)

Great story line. Well written, some great detail expressed without slowing the pace and quite a bit of humour as well. The narration doesn't detract a jot from the experience but once or twice it wasn't overly clear who was who for a few seconds.

Listening to this is an excellent way to pass some very enjoyable hours.

Excellent story full of action and plot surprises

At 50 yrs old, Im late listening to this book, having watched the movie countless times. But I was rather pleased to discover the movie followed the book so very closely.
In fact I think the changes the movie made helped make the movie a little better; a rare thing indeed!
Overall an enjoyable book and a great story. I’d recommend trying it.

Great book but wasn’t impressed with narration. Not too bad but heard much better. Been listening to a lot of books narrated by the amazing Paul Thornley recently and I’d love to hear him have a crack at classics like this

The beginning was a bit slow but it did pick up. The narrator was ok as the story, but the film was great. 7/10
