About this listen
In the ominous corridors of 1950, Eleanor Mayfield flees from her tormented past into the chilling embrace of an eerie mental institution. Each night, reality blurs as whispers and ghostly visions relentlessly stalk her. Accompanied only by a devoted security guard and a cryptic caretaker, Eleanor plunges into the institution's sinister depths, unveiling terrifying secrets that should have stayed hidden.
Decades later, Alina MacLeod grapples with her own demons within those same crumbling walls. Hunted by a vindictive ex-lover, her discovery of ties to Eleanor's past draws her into a chilling moment of fear that defies time. Together, these women from different times untangle a haunting legacy of dread, confronting the horrors that link their destinies.
EMBARK ON A SPINE-TINGLING JOURNEY THROUGH TIME WHERE TERROR KNOWS NO BOUNDS.

This is the sort of book that I couldn't get enough of back in my youth - the perfect genre.
Since having kids and getting into the much tamer genres, it's been a while since I've crept back in - but each time I do, I absolutely love it!!
The similarities between the two storylines gave this an even more chilling feel and the fact this was set in an old institution - the whole vibe of these places from decades ago already sets you on the edge of your seat - but to then flip to present day and see the same building, now run down and disused - I was just shouting at them to get out already!
I did find the flip to present day a little jarring at first, but soon got into the pattern and the way the author was working the storylines around each other.
The characters were brilliantly portrayed and developed through the book, but I think I could have taken even more - digging into Eleanor's past especially.
I was intrigued by some of her behaviour and really wanted to delve further.
I found this a brilliantly quick read - not necessarily a small book - but so easy to get sucked into it and have to just keep reading - just don't do what I did and stay up late alone to get it finished 😬
This is my first read by this author and I'll definitely be looking out for more to come in the future!
**Listening on audio was really atmospheric - the narrator did a really good job portraying the suspense and creepy vibe that was needed for this book**
great spooky season read - very atmospheric

Are ghosts real, can we trust them, can we trust our eyes and can they hurt us? All these questions are answered in this tale.
A really enjoyable ghost story told with excellent narration.
Only slight markdown as there were a couple of paragraphs in an early chapter that appeared to finish before the last word of the paragraph, happened about 3 times. It didn't really spoil the story though as it was easy to know what the missing word was.
If ghosts and creepy stories are your thing, this is one not to miss.
Excellent listen, definitely one for lovers of ghost stories!
