Whispers in the Woods In the tranquil village of Oakhaven, buried deep in the Surrey countryside, secrets don’t stay silent—they whisper through the trees.

Lily, Tommy, Ryan, and Sophie are bound by friendship and boredom—until they stumble upon a terrifying pattern: every ten years, a child disappears without a trace. No one talks about it. The adults look away. But the woods remember.

As the group digs deeper, they uncover a chilling legend—the Dark Man, a presence older than the village itself—and a conspiracy stretching to the very heart of Oakhaven’s council. What begins as curiosity spirals into a nightmare of betrayal, occult ritual, and unimaginable sacrifice.

With time running out and one of their own marked, the friends must choose: turn back, or risk everything to stop the cycle of horror once and for all.

Dark, emotional, and laced with supernatural dread, Whispers in the Woods is a story of friendship tested by fear—and the courage it takes to face the darkness when no one else will.

I wanted to love this story, but I felt a bit confused at times with the timeline and apart from the last part, it felt a bit flat, resulting in a good experience but not great.

I listened to the audiobook and I thought the narrator did a good job. I also loved the characterisation of protagonists and their resolution to solve the mystery, whilst tightening their friendship. I think this was probably the strong element of this story for me.

All in all, although I loved the premise and the kids' friendship element, some parts crucial to the plot were a bit muddled for me and I couldn't fully enjoy it.

Thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

A great premise, with a great kids' friendship element
