motivating, insightful and encouraging. very natural speech too. i learned new stuff that I hope to be able to put into action.
The methods require you to really look at yourself, your life honestly, and work out where unhelpful thoughts/ beliefs are coming from. It isn't a quick fix diet - this is about making long-term psychological and spiritual change so that you'll naturally choose a healthier lifestyle, in the whole sense.
I've listened to it through once and about to start again, this time doing the activities along the way. I need to lose 50lbs urgently for my health, and I know a lot about nutrition and exercise already, but still couldn't lose weight. now I am starting to understand why I sabotage my own success.
I'm 49 next week, so, a year til 50, a year to lose 50lbs is my target. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Loved the simplicity but effectiveness of the Speakmans' plan to lose weight. Not a diet book, but rather advice to get you thinking about why you feel you can't lose weight and how to overcome the barriers facing you. Evidenced by case studies of real people throughout. Loved it!

simple effective weight loss for everyone

I bought the paper back book back in April 2020, we were in the first few weeks of lockdown and my mental health was suffering badly.
I’d always comfort ate and I as I couldn’t work as a mobile hairdresser it was made worse by life at that time becoming very sedentary.
I’d researched weight loss books in a desperate attempt to lose weight but as soon as this book arrived I knew I’d made a choice that would be life changing.
The book wasn’t about just eating less moving more or counting your syns or points or liquidising all your food. It actually helped me to see that my eating disorders and issues i had around food or that I had regarding myself were learned behaviours. The behaviours around food were a symptom and through the help of the questionnaire and timeline I did of my life it helped me go back and see where my schema had originated from and the cause of how I felt about myself and why I used food to either reward or punish myself. I could also relate to the case studies within the book also because for me it wasn’t just about the food, I could detect where my lack of confidence, self worth and negativity came from and was able to re code that once I could see that my environment had a huge part to play with how I felt about myself, especially from being a small child. I started walking everyday which then led me onto start running, something I’d never felt comfortable attempting my whole adult life and have gone from a size 18 to a size 8-10.
I can’t recommend this book highly enough, I have read this book over and over incase there’s anything I have missed and always get something else from it. From this book I subscribed to The Speakmans YouTube channel which offers so much support for weight loss, anxiety, phobias and so much more. I bought their Conquering Anxiety book too which then lead me to booking onto a workshop of theirs in Leeds in September, in which I was given a full day of information about my mental health and tips and staying mental and physically well. I’m also grateful I was able to chat with Eva for a short time during the break and was able to show both of them my before and after photos of my 3st weight loss since buying the book. For me taking control and absorbing as much information about my mental health is paramount and this book literally has it all.
