Summary

A novel from the acclaimed author of The House Between Tides, winner of the Waterstones Scottish Book of the Year 2018!

On the rugged, sea-lashed coast of west Scotland lies Ullaness: home to the Scottish legend of Ulla, a Viking woman who washed up on Scottish shores centuries ago. The legend will bring the stories of three different women together.

In AD 800 there is Ulla, lost in a foreign country after her lover is brutally killed. Ellen, a servant-girl in the 1800s, catches the unwanted attentions of the master of the house's lascivious son. And, in the present day, there is Libby - an archaeologist who is determined to uncover an age-old mystery.

When a body is excavated from Ullaness - the body of someone who was murdered long ago - the mystery deepens, and the fates of the three women become ever more tightly bound.

Women of the Dunes is the new gorgeously sweeping historical novel from Sarah Maine. Perfect for fans of Kate Morton and Jenny Ashcroft.

Thought this was a really good story. Very easy to listen to, it had a lovely flow to it Liked the different time lines, thought they worked really well. All the characters were well written, and brought something to the story. Will read more of her books

Women of the Dunes - really good

The plot lines are predictable and well-worn, with most space given to the present-day thread. If you're looking for a girlie romance, this is for you. If you are hoping for a book based on historical research, best to look elsewhere.

More Woman's Own Romance than Historical Fiction

A good story with lots of twists and turns and extremely well written. Excellent narrating narration added to the whole atmosphere. Will be looking for more in this author

A good story

The author either lacks knowledge about or has dismissed the fact that the Treasure Trove exists in Scotland. This means all significant archaeological discoveries must be reported and are subject to claim by the crown. The idea that a landowner’s wife can simply sell off valuable finds is nonsense. This simplistic approach continues through to the characters, which are one-dimensional at best.

Silly premise undermines entire plot
