For a book released in 2018 it has dated rather quickly. She's clearly directing her book at American artists who are as dismayed as she is by Trump. It feels much more political than I expected from the title and whilst I'm not completely unsympathetic, I just didn't want to go back there and relive it.

I am sure the author is thrilled at the change in political direction and may feel glad that that aspect of her book feels historical now and it was probably cathartic at the time to get her thoughts out there.

There is some encouragement to artists about using our talents even in hard times which was nice, but there was just too much unexpected political angst and self righteousness in such a short book anyway for it to feel relevant. It lacked a longer, more timeless perspective.
