About this listen

He only had to do one thing. Love her family…
Matt Walker was a chancer; he'd spent his entire profession chasing the next job. His personal life took on a similar mantra; a succession of one-night stands and brief relationships. Life was slowly drifting him by.
Until one evening, in a hotel bar, following a fortuitous meeting with the quiet and unassuming Julia. She knew of an opportunity that would be the perfect fit for Matt; one he simply couldn't let go.
Not only did the subsequent interview provide him his with dream job; it would also be where he met the love of his life. Matt and Amelia spent each day working hand-in-hand, and every evening in premarital bliss.
Finally, Matt's life was taking shape. Following years of turmoil and heartbreak, the future looked full of promise and hope.
And then Amelia introduced him to her family…

My first book by Jack Stainton and I am thrilled I found this author. Huge praise to Nicholas Camm the narrator who at first I felt wasn't brilliant, but then the more I listened he was excellent.

This is a very realistic psychological thriller, so believable and could happen in anyone's ordinary day to day life. The story is exceptional from start to finish and this book had me gripped all the way through. We're not hit with so many characters that we lose track of who is who. For psychological thriller lovers, this book is chilling and creepy without ridiculous unbelievable things happening, This is a serious book for serious readers and listeners and not in any way puerile which I find so many psychological thrillers from the big name authors are these days. This book doesn't take the reader for a fool put it that way.

I don't want to give anything away but as a taster ; Matthew's world changes in so many ways with his new job and new love, the strange family members the shabby home, the weird child. A strange and disturbing new life opens up for Matthew which turns into a nightmare.

Footnote. - This is a fantastic audio version of this book and you might, like me, find yourself laughing out loud at the absolutely brilliant narration.
I now intend to listen/read to everything Jack Stainton has written :)

Loved this story, kept me interested, however, I struggled with the narrator and he almost made me stop listening but im glad I stuck it out.

Lots of twist

I found the narrator's voice didn't match the 36 year old character. Just couldn't continue listening after a few chapters, and the story line to that point wasn't very interesting. If something is too good to be true...
