中之島の東端に架かる橋。大川(正式には旧淀川)はここで堂島川(北側)と
土佐堀川(南側)に分かれます。最初の架橋年代は不明ですが、
1594(文禄3)年には架けられたとの説があります。
難波橋・天満橋とならぶ江戸時代の大阪を代表する三大橋のひとつで、
もっとも長い約250ｍを誇りました。
