古代、海のない奈良に代わって国内外との人・物資往来の玄関口となったのが
難波津です。その場所は江戸時代の川港があった八軒家浜一帯と推測されます。
八軒家浜は大阪と京都を結ぶ川船のターミナルとして旅籠が建ち並び、
幕末には坂本龍馬、西郷隆盛らも利用しました。
船の利用者の安全を確保するために建てられた燈籠が復元されています。
