大阪城は豊臣秀吉が築城し徳川秀忠が再建した城郭ですが、
その縄張りには自然の地形が利用されたと推測されています。
そのうち西側の外堀は天満橋の東側に下る谷筋を利用しており、
これにより大阪歴史博物館南側で発見された５世紀の大型倉庫群と
古代の難波津が結ばれていた可能性があります。
