On this episode of Stick Season, I was joined by the co-founder of Zhilkin’s Vision, Lauren Shoss! Lauren, and her boyfriend Danny, started this non-profit organization together in August 2022, intending to promote the prioritization and destigmatization of mental health in sports. That same summer, Danny was drafted #77th overall by the Winnipeg Jets.
During our conversation, Lauren and I chatted all about the intersection between mental health and sports. We discussed how an athlete’s emotional well-being impacts their performance, shapes their identity, and contributes to their mental resilience. I also asked her all about her work with Zhilkin’s Vision, what it was like to attend the NHL draft, and of course - her go-to order at Tim Hortons!
