When we discovered that the Friends of Tūhura donated the large glacial erratic boulder at the museum’s original entrance on Great King St, we were curious. What even is a glacial erratic?! We asked Marcus Richards Collections Technician in Natural Sciences at Tūhura who points out that boulders litter our landscapes, and they all have a story to tell. Marcus illuminates where this glacial erratic came from and why it’s significant enough to earn its place of pride at a museum entrance along with a Moeraki Boulder/ Kaihinaki. In this animated kōrero, Marcus shares how he came to study paleontology at the University of Otago, work in its Geology Department and become part of the Natural Sciences team at Tūhura. This show was broadcast on OAR 105.4FM Dunedin - oar.org.nz and made thanks to the support of NZ on Air.
