In August 1968, The Beatles Apple records label made their debut with their 'First Four' single releases. Mary Hopkin - Those Were The Days, Jackie Lomax - Sour Milk Sea, Black Dyke Mills Band - Thingumybob and The Beatles own new single Hey Jude.

Over the next couple of years Paul, George and Ringo would embrace working with new talent that the label discovered. Writing songs, playing on recording and producing material for many of the Apple artists.

The 'success' or 'failure' of the label is subjective. Yes, they had a lot of behind the scenes issues, especially with the arrival of Klein. But they did have chart success and discovered James Taylor, Badfinger, Hot Chocolate, Mary Hopkin, Billy Preston, among others.

In this first of a new occasional series we take a deep dive into two Apple artists, Hot Chocolate and Badfinger.
