In this episode of True Hauntings Podcast, we investigate the strange and unsettling case of The Cideville Poltergeist, one of France’s most unusual 19th-century paranormal mysteries.
In 1850, at a quiet presbytery in Cideville, Normandy, two boys studying under Curé Jean Tinel became the centre of a terrifying series of unexplained events: mysterious knocks in the walls, flying objects, moving furniture, musical raps, strange voices, and claims of a dark figure haunting the house.
But this was no ordinary ghost story.
The haunting soon turned into a legal battle when local shepherd Félix Thorel was accused of being connected to the disturbances through sorcery. Thorel denied the claims and sued the priest for defamation, turning the Cideville Poltergeist into a rare paranormal case that ended up in court.
Was this a genuine poltergeist haunting? Were the boys responsible for the activity? Was Thorel a sorcerer, a scapegoat, or simply the man the village chose to blame? And how did fear, religion, gossip, and reputation turn strange knocks in a priest’s house into one of France’s most fascinating haunted history cases?
Join us as we explore the priest, the shepherd, the two boys, and the curse that went to court.
