Three major American credit card companies announced earlier this month their intention to begin using a “merchant category code” (MCC) for gun stores. This code will enable credit Card Companies to trace and track Gun and Ammo purchases. Whether credit card companies will use the gun store codes to flag suspicious purchases remains to be seen. However, this recent announcement has thrust what was once a little-known agenda item into the national spotlight.
