    Welcome to Echoes of Empires! If you’re looking for a podcast about history, you’ve come to the right place! Because you’ll find over a hundred episodes here about the Roman Empire, Byzantium, the Arab Caliphates, Charlemagne’s Empire, the Dark Ages, the Crusades and I’m adding to them all the time.

    The purpose is to tell exciting narrative history in bite-sized chunks of about 20 minutes or so for each episode. You’ll learn about a topic quickly and I hope you’ll be gripped by the exciting story that’s central to each episode.

    This podcast used to be named 'The Fall of the Roman Empire,' so most of the early episodes are about Rome and its decline and fall. This introduction and the next episode explain how Rome rose to being a superpower since we need to understand that before we consider its decline and fall.
