About this listen

Prahastha is a post-death transition officer on the spacecraft Pushpak-6341, where dead humans arrive to have their memories wiped and then sent back to Earth to be reborn. Alone in the spacecraft for a decade, with only the long line of dead and his supervisor Nitigya for company, Prahashta’s safe life is thrown into a chaos with the surprise arrival of a new assistant, Yuvishka.

Adapted from the feature film Cargo, written by Arati Kadav.

I decided to listen to this on a whim after hearing an excerpt - I'm so glad I did!

Cargo is brilliantly written, superbly performed, and the music and sfx really help add to the layers of the whole thing.

The accents and cadence of speech took me a few mins to get used to, but once I was in, I was hooked!

I absolutely adored the hot-cold dynamics between the protagonists and found myself getting all teary eyed, or guffawing loudly, during a surprising amount of little moments throughout the story.

Overall, I honestly can't rate this highly enough. Cargo tells a very human story, and often puts its sci fi setting on the back seat, in favour of something more relatable.

I listen to a prodigous amount of audiobooks and full cast dramatisations, and I've got to say I'm as surprised as anyone that Cargo is among the best I've experienced!

Honestly, listen to the whole thing - it's a fantastic, and emotional journey that'll surprise you in ways you might not have expected.
