Negli anni '80 il produttore Trevor Horn acquisisce gli Island Studios e li ribattezza Sarm Studios, facendone il tempio della musica elettronica. Celebre la registrazione di Do they know it’s Christmas? della Band Aid. Horn trasforma ogni brano in un successo, come Relax, Slave to the rythm e Belfast child. Ma in questi anni il fenomeno sociale della gentrificazione avrà un forte impatto anche sugli studi di registrazione.
