• The Ivory by Nyla K (Review Part 2) | Ep. 14 | Fictional Analysis
    Apr 5 2026

Welcome back to Fictional Analysis! 🎙️I am your host, Kajal. Today is the day for Part 2 of our deep dive into The Ivory by Nyla K, the final book in the Alabaster Penitentiary series.

In this episode, we break down Chapters 16-30:

    • Filling in the Blanks: While the first part focused on the island's foundation, these chapters shift to clearing up blank spaces from the previous books. We finally get to see other characters' points of view on past events.

    • Angel's Return: We jump to three years after Angel ran from Ivory. He ends up taking a job back at the Alabaster Pen, but he goes disguised as a girl so Manuel won't recognize him.

    • Inside Ivory's Mind: Reading Manuel's POV is fascinating; it is full of humor, rage, and a twisted sense of ownership over Velle. We also uncover the tragic catalyst for Velle breaking free of Manuel's control: the belief that Manuel sold his mother the drugs that killed her.

    • The Critique: The single biggest problem in this section is the timelines. We get absolute whiplash jumping from the time before the first book, straight into the present timeline of the sixth book, and then back to the fourth book, all from different POVs. It makes it very difficult to remember what is happening.

    • The Big Question: After reading Ivory's perspective, I actually feel like Velle and Manuel should have been together. What do you think?

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • Book: The Ivory by Nyla K (Chapters 16-30)

    • Series: Alabaster Penitentiary

I need your help! 🆘Please recommend some spicy and exciting novels to me for future episodes.

  • The Ivory by Nyla K (Review Part 1: Chapters 1-15) | Alabaster Penitentiary Finale
    Mar 29 2026

Welcome back to Fictional Analysis! 🎙️

This week, we are officially kicking off our 4-part deep dive into The Ivory by Nyla K, the final book in the Alabaster Penitentiary series. Today, we are reviewing the first 15 chapters.

In this episode, we break down:

    • The Island's Lore: We explore the cursed history of the island, the mysterious deaths of past owners, and how Manuel Blanco actually became the warden. Surprisingly, this wasn't the job Manuel originally wanted.

    • Character Deep-Dive: Manuel Blanco: In previous books, he seemed like an invincible, controlling villain who never laughed. I was completely shocked to spy inside his mind and discover he actually jokes, laughs, and is definitely not the "top" I expected him to be in the bedroom!.

    • Character Deep-Dive: Angel Alvarez: Angel is hell-bent on revenge after Manuel killed his parents in front of him when he was just three years old.

    • The Critique: Angel's character motivations are incredibly confusing. He spends his life seeking vengeance, yet by chapter 15, he is sleeping with the Ivory. Also, while the deep dive into the island's past felt a bit boring at first, the spicy scenes and plot twists have me excited for what happens next.

    • Novel Update: ✍️ I am currently writing chapter 16 of my novel!. I didn't have much time this week, but the progress continues.

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • Book: The Ivory by Nyla K (Chapters 1-15)

    • Series: Alabaster Penitentiary

I need your help! 🆘Please recommend some spicy and exciting novels for me to read next!.

  • Mid-Week Update: The Ivory by Nyla K Reading Schedule | Fictional Analysis
    Mar 27 2026

Welcome back to Fictional Analysis! 🎙️

This is a quick mid-week update. I usually only post on the weekends, but I needed to jump on the mic to share a change of plans regarding our upcoming review.

As I mentioned in our last episode, I am reviewing The Ivory this coming Sunday. However, I didn't realize until I opened it that this book is a massive 900 pages long!

To do this story justice and keep our episodes digestible, I won't be reviewing the entire 900 pages in one single shot.

Here is the new game plan for The Ivory:

    • The book has a total of 59 chapters.

    • I will be breaking the review into a 4-part mini-series.

    • We will cover roughly 15 chapters per episode.

    • In the fourth and final episode, I will give my overall review and rating for the book as a whole.

Make sure you are subscribed and ready for Part 1, dropping this coming Sunday!

    Mar 22 2026

Welcome back to Fictional Analysis! 🎙️

This week, I am stepping into a high-security prison on an isolated island to review the highly addictive Alabaster Penitentiary series by Nyla K.

🚨 Schedule Reminder: Catch new episodes every Sunday at 10:30 AM!

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • The Setup: The series takes place in a strict prison run by a head known as "The Ivory". Both dangerous criminals and innocent people who uncovered government secrets are locked up here for life.

    • The Romance: The books are primarily MM romance, with the second book featuring an MMF dynamic. We explore the intense relationships that develop between the inmates and sometimes the guards.

    • The Good: The pacing, writing style, and spicy scenes are fantastic, making it a complete blockbuster series.

    • The Critique: The books are quite long, and the intertwining timelines make it very hard to remember specific plot points from earlier books.

    • The Verdict: A highly addictive series that earns a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars from me.

    • Novel Update: ✍️ I have officially completed Chapter 15 of my own novel! The hero finally confessed his feelings, but my female lead rejected him, so now he has to actually put in the work to win her over.

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • Series: Alabaster Penitentiary by Nyla K

    • Tropes: MM/MMF Romance, Prison Romance

  • Prey Island by Sorcha Black Review (MMF Romance) | Ep. 11
    Mar 15 2026

Welcome back to Fictional Analysis! 🎙️

This week, I stepped outside my usual mafia romance comfort zone to read a standalone MMF romance, and let's just say... it did not go well.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • The Setup: Lane is struggling financially and signs a mysterious resort contract to pay for her sister's college fees and aunt's medication, leading her straight to boyfriends Ajax and Calder.

    • The Critique: This book promised extreme spice and delivered absolutely no thrill. I break down why the complete lack of romance and tension had me skipping pages just to finish it.

    • The Verdict: A very disappointing 1.5 out of 5 stars. I read it so you don't have to!

    • Novel Update: ✍️ I have officially finished Chapter 10 of my own novel, and the male lead is finally starting to catch feelings!

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • Book: Prey Island by Sorcha Black

    • Tropes: MMF Bisexual Romance, Standalone

    • Rating: ⭐.5

  • Is He a Mafia Boss or Just an Idiot? 📉 | The Pakhan's Secretary Review
    Mar 8 2026

Welcome back to Fictional Analysis! 🎙️

After a long break, I am finally back to reading my comfort genre: mafia romance.

🚨 Schedule Reminder: Catch new episodes every Sunday at 10:30 AM!.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • The Setup: We are looking at "The Pakhan's Secretary" by Ariana Cooper. It features the classic secretary/boss trope with Roman Sokolov and Eva Markova. Eva is in massive debt, leading to a forced marriage scenario to pay for her family's medical and tuition bills.

    • The Good: Roman actually respects Eva's feelings, and Eva isn't afraid to speak her mind and stand up to him.

    • The Critique: This story suffers from severe repetition. The author constantly reuses the same phrases, and Roman is so distracted by Eva that he acts like an idiot instead of a competent mafia boss dealing with his enemies. Plus, why is Natasha always crying?.

    • The Verdict: The execution fell flat for me, earning this a 3 out of 5 stars.

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • Book: The Pakhan's Secretary by Ariana Cooper

    • Tropes: Boss x Secretary, Mafia Romance, Marriage of Convenience

    • Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

I need your help! 🆘Please recommend some better mafia romance novels for me to read next week.

    • The Verdict: Why this book earned a harsh 2 out of 5 stars from me.

    Mentioned in this episode:

    • Book: My Salvation by Stella Brie

  • 6 Things That Make Me Reject a Novel🛑 | Fictional Analysis
    Feb 22 2026

Welcome back to Fictional Analysis! 🎙️

This week, I have a confession: I didn't finish a single book. I am officially in a reading slump, and today, we are talking about why.

Instead of forcing a review, I am breaking down the biggest problems in the novels that make me instantly DNF (Did Not Finish) a book.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • Reader Burnout: Why reading too much of one trope exhausts your brain.

    • The Hype Trap: Why I had to drop Bound by Honour (Cora Reilly) and the Made series (Danielle Lori) despite their massive popularity.

    • Problematic Tropes: Why the "15-year-old arranged engagement" trope needs to stop.

    • Rushed Pacing: Why zero-emotion, page-one intimacy ruins the tension.

    • Book Presentation: Yes, the font and formatting actually matter!

I need your help! 🚨I want to get out of this slump. DM me your absolute best Mafia Romance recommendations. Give me a book with a great plot, proper pacing, and perfect presentation!
