  • Q2: SpaceX Is Coming to Your 401(k): The Biggest IPO in History
    Jun 9 2026
This week, the biggest IPO in history is landing — and you might end up owning a piece of it without ever choosing to. SpaceX, Elon Musk's rocket company, is going public on the Nasdaq at a jaw-dropping valuation of around $1.75 trillion. In this episode we start from zero: what an IPO actually is, what it means to "go public," and why this one is so enormous it's making headlines from Wall Street to your retirement account. Then we get into the part most people are missing. The two companies that run America's biggest stock indexes just made opposite decisions in the same week — Nasdaq rewrote its rulebook to fast-track SpaceX in (critics nicknamed it "Lex SpaceX"), while S&P held the line and made it wait. We break down why that quiet, technical fight decides whether SpaceX shows up in your 401(k) in a matter of weeks — and how the "forced buying" machine behind index funds works. Finally, the honest part: a company worth $1.75 trillion that lost nearly $5 billion last year. We walk through the eye-popping valuation, present the bulls' case fairly, bust a viral myth, and give you a calm, beginner-friendly reality check on what history says about chasing hot IPOs. No hype, no fear — just what you actually need to know. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

  • Q2: Buy First, Talk Later: Trump's Trades and the Manipulation Question
    Jun 2 2026
Linda Garcia, Texas House Representative, author of Wealth Warrior: 8 Steps for Communities of Color to Conquer the Stock Market, and public speaker, is dedicated to empowering lower-income families and those without access to investing resources through financial literacy. Her podcast, Investies, tackles real-money topics, demystifies investing, and explores crucial areas like the stock market, money management, and the impact of interest rates on personal finances. We start from scratch: what financial disclosure is, why it exists, what law requires it, and how anyone can look it up. Then we get into the documented facts. In May 2026, the U.S. Office of Government Ethics published records showing a brokerage account in Trump's name made over 3,600 trades in the first three months of the year — worth between $220 million and $750 million. Multiple news outlets, using those same public filings, then identified a consistent pattern: the account bought shares in a company, and within days — sometimes hours — Trump publicly praised that same company in a speech or on television. We walk through four documented case studies — Dell, Micron, Apple, and Thermo Fisher — with exact dates, exact quotes, and what happened to each stock afterward. We then cover the April 2025 tariff pause, when Trump posted "THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!" on Truth Social less than four hours before announcing a 90-day tariff pause that sent the S&P 500 up 9.5% in a single day. And we look at the Iran war trading patterns, where an account in Trump's name appeared to be buying energy and defense stocks on the same day Trump was publicly saying the war was winding down. No charges have been filed. The legal debate is ongoing. Our job is to make sure you understand what the facts are — so you can draw your own conclusions. There are so many ways to make the stock market work for you as you gain more experience as an investor.
