About this listen

It's Five O'Clock Somewhere is a new podcast from authors, bloggers and great friends, Jo Middleton and Gill Sims. In it, Gill and Jo kick back with a cocktail and have a bit of fun discussing random topics including but not limited to, parenting, hormones, menopause, weird nineties sex tips, and relationships. Oh, and we also proffer advice we are in no way qualified to give in our regular problem page slot. Jo Middleton is the creator of the award winning Slummy Single Mummy blog, and the author of Playgroups and Prosecco, and Gill Sims is the author of the bestselling Why Mummy series of books, The Saturday Night Sauvignon Sisterhood, and the Peter and Jane blog. We met at an event several years ago, where we bonded over how much we were missing our pets, but not our children. Subsequent meetings saw us crashing a wedding, starting a party in a hotel bar we had persuaded the night porter to open, and liberating a bottle of tequila from a terrifying sausage conglomeration in Brighton. We have not yet been arrested on a night out, but give it time. Get in touch with us by email at itsfiveoclocksomewherepodcast@hotmail.com, or follow us on Instagram @its5oclocksomewherepodcast, on Facebook It's Five O'Clock Somewhere and even on Twitter @5OClock_Podcast. We don't do TikTok. Our children have forbidden us. Also, it scares us. Produced by James Ede, BeHeard Hosted by LibSyn2022 Parenting & Families Relationships

This week we are supposed to be talking about Easter, but our attempt to google strange Easter traditions from around the world takes a slightly dark turn, which would probably go down well in Norway, where apparently Easter is all about crime novels, Gill experiments with an ALCOHOL FREE beverage, and Jo feels the urge to reassure us all that she has never murdered a mink, but apparently believes all furry animals come from Russia. These statements from Jo may have had something to do with the fact she was most assuredly NOT enjoying an alcohol free beverage...

We're back! After a very long hiatus, we have finally got our act together and returned to podcasting, with our signature brand of day drinking, rambling, and puerile and inappropriate humour. Once described as 'listening in to a chat with your two best friends', we hope you have as much fun listening to this as we did making it!

  • GLADIATORS, READY!!!!!
    Dec 20 2023

This week, with the clock ticking ever more rapidly, and that festive countdown very much on, we talk about those organised people who, having been ready for Christmas since approximately mid August, like to remind the rest of us about that by asking in faux concerned tones 'And are you all ready for Christmas?', when they know full well the answer is going to be a resounding NO! Jo takes a rather more pragmatic to Christmas and declares one is 'ready' when one is eating cherry liqueur chocolates with your morning coffee, whereas Gill takes on a more panicked approach, not helped by developing a recent obsession with making the 'tension rod garlands' that she saw on Instagram. It's a packed episode though, as Jo learns a lot about hostess trolleys, Gill threatens to cry in the garage with a bottle of Baileys and we discuss why 'Susan' is such an excellent name! Merry Christmas!

Listening to this podcast feels like going to a cocktail bar with two amusing, highly entertaining friends and quietly sipping my drink while they get on with what they do best.

if you like Gill Sims' work then you'll love this podcast, and you'll also see how much of herself she's put into her characters.

Bonkers, but brilliant.

Look forward to listening every week, often whilst walking the dog. Could be a little bit longer?

One of my favourites!

Two middle aged, middle class, hormonal ladies shooting the breeze. And it's absolutely hysterical!!! As a man married whose wife is pre-menopausal this pulls back the curtain on her and what her friends are discussing and going through. Thanks to both of you.

Just Brilliant!!!
