  • Oscar Wilde - The Canterville Ghost
    Jun 23 2026
"The Canterville Ghost" is a humorous short story by Oscar Wilde. It was the first of Wilde's stories to be published, appearing in two parts in The Court and Society Review, 23 February and 2 March 1887. The story is about an American family who moved to a castle haunted by the ghost of a dead English nobleman, who killed his wife and was then walled in and starved to death by his wife's brothers.

It's not great but it's okay as a read. The book is fantastic.

I did this in several chunks and had a cold at the start which accounts for the change in timbre in various places.

  • Book of the Week - Searching for Railway Telegraph Insulators
    Jun 13 2026
Have YOU ever wanted a Railway Telegraph Insulator but been unable to satisfy that craving?

    Interesting review
Despite the title this is not a joke book. The author is serious about his passion. Indeed in the preface he explains that he couldn't understand why he could not find a girl friend when he was a young man. This book has become a cult classic and becoming quite hard to obtain therefore likely to become a collectors item if there are no reprints
