Can your business continue running if you need to step away for a day?
A sustainable business isn't built around doing everything yourself. It's built on systems, support, and people you trust.
If I ever find myself at zero capacity to lead, I know I can lean on my team or the incredible leaders within my community. Creating that level of support is one of the greatest investments you can make in your business.
What Makes a Sustainable Business?
My goal is to create a business that is:
- Calm
- Stable
- Burnout-free
- Relaxed
- Powerful
- Sustainable
Growth is important, but growth without a solid foundation can create stress and instability. Long-term success comes from building systems that support both your business and your life.
Tips for Running Your Business While Traveling
This session also became a behind-the-scenes look at how I continue leading and serving while away from my normal workspace.
My Travel Essentials
- A portable fabric backdrop
- My phone as a high-quality camera
- Simple camera mounts
- Natural window light whenever possible
One of my favorite tools is Camo Studio, which allows me to use my phone as a webcam. Since phone cameras are often better than laptop cameras, it's an easy way to improve your online presence while traveling.
Speaker Tip
Always have a backup setup ready.
You never know when you'll need to host a meeting, deliver a presentation, or join a livestream from a hotel room, shared space, or unfamiliar environment. A simple travel setup allows you to continue showing up professionally from anywhere.
CIAO: Call It All Out
One of my favorite speaker tools is:
CIAO = Call It All Out
As speakers and leaders, we often try to ignore distractions or pretend everything is perfect. Instead, acknowledge what's happening.
This could be:
- A technical issue
- A noisy environment
- A distraction in the room
- Being in a different location
- Nervousness before speaking
When you call it out, your audience relaxes. Trust increases because people no longer have to wonder what's going on.
Three Speaking Principles I Teach
1. Be Real
People connect with authenticity more than perfection. Start where you are and speak from that place.
2. Make It About Your Audience
After sharing your experience, bring it back to them.
Ask questions like:
- Can you relate?
- Have you experienced this too?
- What does this look like in your business?
Connection happens when people see themselves in the conversation.
3. Change the State of the Room
Great speakers don't just share information—they guide energy.
Simple tools like:
- Deep breathing
- Stretching
- Movement
- Humor
can help shift your audience into a more engaged and resourceful state.
