Each of us always have a choice on how we respond to situations and move our lives forward as we see fit. We can get "stuck" sometimes and producing these sessions are my way of helping me get "unstuck" and to be mindful that I have a choice. Even if I don't make a choice, I still have made a choice. Published Monday through Friday, these sessions are somewhere between mindfulness and reflection. Starting with a quote and a quick thought, Make a Difference just might become a daily stop on making us both a better version of ourselves; one day at a time. Join me and let's find out! Mark 2.0 – Episode 7Don't Waste the StruggleOpening Quote"Your struggle may not have been your choice, but what you become because of it is."INTROWelcome back to Make a Difference. You know, if there's one thing I've learned over the past year, it's this:Nobody volunteers for the hard stuff.Nobody wakes up in the morning and says,"You know what I'd really like today? A major challenge."We don't ask for illness. We don't ask for setbacks. We don't ask for the moments that completely turn our lives upside down. But sooner or later, life brings them anyway. And when it does, most of us ask the same question:"Why is this happening to me?"I've asked that question.Maybe you have too.But over time, I've come to believe there's a better question. Not,"Why is this happening to me?"But,"What can this teach me?"MAIN MESSAGEWhen we're in the middle of a struggle, it's hard to see anything beyond the pain.We just want things to go back to normal. We want life to feel easy again. We want answers. And we want them now.I know I did. When I was dealing with my infection and fighting my way through recovery, I wasn't looking for life lessons.I wasn't trying to become a better person.I was simply trying to make it through the day. Some days, that felt like enough of a challenge. But looking back now, I can see something I couldn't see then. The struggle was changing me.Not because I wanted it to.But because it had to.It was teaching me things that comfort never could.PERSONAL STORYBefore all of this happened, I thought just push thought the difficult times.Push through.Keep going. Then life had a different lesson for me.It taught me that strength isn't always about pushing forward.Sometimes strength is accepting help. When I look back at my struggle, I often think about where I would be if I did not have my wife. but that is a story for a full show.Sometimes strength is being patient.Sometimes strength is getting out of bed and taking one more step than you took yesterday. Those lessons didn't come from success. They came from struggle. And honestly, I don't think I would have learned them any other way.REFLECTIONOne of the things I've noticed is that every difficult season leaves us with something.Sometimes it's wisdom.Sometimes it's perspective.Sometimes it's gratitude.Sometimes it's compassion for people who are carrying burdens we can't see.The struggle changes us.The real question is whether we'll let it change us for the better.Because pain can make us bitter.Or it can make us stronger. It can close our hearts.Or it can open them.It can make us ask, "Why me?"Or it can inspire us to ask, "What now?"Asking the question "what now" requires that we do the reflective inspective thinking to dig in and answer that question.THE LESSONI still wouldn't choose the challenges I've been through. But I can honestly say they've taught me things I needed to learn. They reminded me that life is fragile. They reminded me not to take ordinary days for granted. They reminded me that every day is a gift. And maybe that's the lesson. Not that we should be thankful for the struggle itself. But that we shouldn't waste it.If we're going to walk through something difficult, let's come out stronger.Let's come out wiser.Let's come out with a deeper appreciation for the life we've been given.CHALLENGE FOR TODAYToday, I want you to think about a challenge you're facing right now.Maybe it's something you've been carrying for a long time.Maybe it's something that just showed up.Instead of asking,"Why is this happening to me?"Try asking,"What is this teaching me?"You might be surprised by the answer.Because sometimes the greatest growth in our lives comes from the seasons we would never have chosen.CLOSINGI'll leave you with this thought:"The struggle didn't come to stop you. It came to teach you, strengthen you, and prepare you for what's next."Don't waste the lesson.Don't waste the growth. And don't waste the opportunity to become stronger because of what you've been through.Thank you for listening to Make a Difference.Takeaways:The podcast emphasizes the significance of reflection and self-improvement as essential personal growth tools.Listeners are encouraged to confront their struggles and seek lessons rather than question their circumstances.Strength can manifest not only through perseverance but also through accepting assistance from others. The show promotes the idea that every challenge faced can lead to personal wisdom and deeper appreciation for life.

  • What Happens After Your 1st Step - Mark 2.0 Show 6
    Jun 22 2026
Make a Difference PodcastMark 2.0 – Episode 6Trust the ProcessOpening Quote"Just because you can't see progress doesn't mean progress isn't happening."INTROWelcome to Make a Difference.Last time, we talked about taking the next right step. But what happens after that? What happens when you take that step... and nothing changes? No breakthrough. No immediate results. No sign that you're moving in the right direction. You did the work. You made the effort. You took the step. And yet, life seems exactly the same.If you've ever felt that way, today's message is for you.Because sometimes the hardest part of the journey isn't taking the first step. It's trusting the process after you've taken it.MAIN MESSAGEWe live in a world that loves instant results.Instant messages.Instant downloads.Instant answers. We've become conditioned to expect immediate feedback. But the most important things in life don't work that way.Growth doesn't happen overnight.Healing doesn't happen overnight.Change doesn't happen overnight.Think about planting a seed. The day after you plant it, you don't see anything.A week later, maybe nothing. If you judged the process only by what you could see above the ground, you might assume nothing is happening. But beneath the surface, roots are forming.Strength is developing.Life is growing. The same is true for us.Sometimes our greatest growth happens where no one can see it.Including ourselves.PERSONAL REFLECTIONOne of the lessons I learned during my own recovery was patience. There were days when I wanted to feel stronger.Days when I wanted to be further along than I was.I remember one moment very clearly. After being released from the ICU, I was finally able to get out of bed and try to walk.I had a walker.I was determined. And I made it exactly 43 steps.Forty-three.That's all I had.For someone who had spent a lifetime taking movement for granted, it was eye-opening.The amount of strength I had lost was incredible.A few weeks earlier, I never would have imagined that simply standing up and walking across a room would feel like climbing a mountain. But those 43 steps taught me something important.Recovery wasn't going to happen all at once.I wasn't going to wake up one morning and suddenly be back to normal. It was going to happen one step at a time. One day at a time. One small victory at a time. And while it didn't feel like much in that moment, those 43 steps were progress. They were proof that healing was happening. Not at the speed I wanted. But at the speed I needed. There were other days when it felt like progress had stopped.Days when I wondered if I would ever regain the strength I had lost. But healing was happening.Even when I couldn't see it.Even when I couldn't feel it.Looking back now, I realize that every small effort mattered.Every day I chose to keep moving forward mattered.Every small step was building something bigger than I understood at the time. That's often how life works. The results show up long after the work begins.THE LESSONMany people quit too soon. Not because they're incapable. Not because they're weak. But because they mistake a lack of visible results for a lack of progress. And those are not the same thing.Just because you can't see movement doesn't mean you're standing still.Sometimes you're building roots.Sometimes you're developing strength.Sometimes you're becoming the person you'll need to be when the opportunity arrives.Trust the process.Trust the work.Trust the growth that's happening beneath the surface. The seed doesn't stop growing simply because it hasn't broken through the soil. And your progress doesn't stop simply because you can't see it yet.CHALLENGE FOR TODAYToday, I want you to think about one area of your life where you've been tempted to give up.Maybe it's your health.A relationship.A goal.A dream.A new habit.Ask yourself this question:"What if progress is happening, even though I can't see it yet?"And then make a commitment.Don't quit.Don't retreat.Don't stop planting seeds because you haven't seen the harvest.Take another step. And then another. And trust the process.CLOSINGI'll leave you with this thought:"The seed doesn't break through the soil the day it's planted, but growth is happening all the same."Your efforts matter.Your persistence matters.Your journey matters.Keep showing up.Keep believing.Keep moving forward.Because one day you'll look back and realize that what felt like standing still was actually becoming stronger. And what felt like a small step was actually the beginning of something extraordinary.Thank you for listening to Make a Difference.Until next time, trust the process, keep growing, and keep making a difference.Takeaways:The podcast emphasizes the importance of reflection and self-improvement in our daily lives. Each episode focuses on a unique quote that encourages thoughtful discussion and personal growth.Trusting the process is essential, as progress often occurs beneath the surface and is not immediately visible. We must recognize that significant...
