• Was John Wesley an Inerrantist? with Mark Olson
    Jun 30 2026

Did John Wesley believe the Bible is without error? Some argue that calling Wesley a supporter of biblical inerrancy is anachronistic because the term developed after his lifetime. In this episode of More to the Story, Dr. Mark Olson joins me to tackle this important historical and theological question.

Together, we explore how historians approach questions about historical figures and ideas, examining the difference between imposing modern categories on the past and identifying continuity in theological convictions. Olson argues that while Wesley did not use the language of contemporary inerrancy debates, the substance of his view of Scripture clearly reflects a belief that the Bible is free from error. The conversation highlights Wesley’s writings, his understanding of divine inspiration, and the methods historians use to assess theological claims across centuries.

Whether you are interested in Wesley studies, biblical authority, or historical theology, this episode offers a thoughtful and engaging discussion.

  • Covenant and Polity with Samuel Padgett and Jonathan Bynum
    Jun 18 2026

In this episode, I am joined by Revs. Samuel Padgett and Jonathan Bynum for a timely conversation on covenant and polity in the life of the Global Methodist Church. Drawing from the work of the Board of Ministry Cohort, Samuel shares how a request from the bishops to address clergy status concerns led to a deeper realization: the issue is not merely structural, but theological.

Rather than simply adjusting categories like supply, inactive, or senior status, this group argues that our polity must be grounded in covenant. When theology leads, structures serve the mission of unity and faithfulness; when it doesn’t, pragmatism can quietly reshape the church’s identity.

Together, they explore why covenant must remain central, how proposed legislation seeks to reflect that conviction, and why this conversation matters as the church looks ahead. This episode invites leaders and laity alike to think deeply about what holds us together.

  • Every Methodist an Evangelist with Ryan Barnett
    May 28 2026

In this episode, I am joined by Ryan Barnett, Chief Operating Officer of the Mid-Texas Global Methodist Church Conference, to discuss the recently released book Christ for All: Every Methodist an Evangelist, which Ryan edited. Our conversation explores the theological and practical vision behind the book and why evangelism sits at the very center of historic Methodism.

We also reflect on why this book is being received so well at this particular stage in the life of the Global Methodist Church. As Ryan explains, the GMC’s emerging identity and shared theological commitments have created space for renewed clarity and common purpose around evangelism, something that proved difficult in earlier denominational settings. We conclude by looking ahead to the future of the GMC and what it might mean to move forward with unity, missional focus, and confidence in the church’s calling.

  • The Reason for Church with Brad Edwards
    May 21 2026

In this episode of More to the Story, I sit down with Brad Edwards, author of the award-winning The Reason for Church. Brad offers a compelling vision for why Christian institutions still matter in an age marked by individualism and skepticism toward organized religion. Drawing on his experience as a church planter, he explains how many today are open to God but hesitant about the church itself.

Brad challenges the assumption that institutions are inherently restrictive, arguing instead that they provide the “durable and formative structures” necessary for faithful Christian life together. The conversation also explores the rise of consumerism in church culture, the weakening pipeline for pastoral leadership, and the need for long-term, faithful institution-building. This episode will help pastors and leaders recover a biblical vision of the church as the people of God—formed through shared practices, worship, and community.

  • A New Testament Scholar’s Calling with David deSilva
    May 7 2026

In this episode of More to the Story, I’m joined by New Testament scholar Dr. David A. deSilva for a rich and fun conversation about faith, vocation, and theological formation. Dr. deSilva shares his personal calling to serve the church as a scholar and reflects on how his academic work has been shaped by a desire to build up the people of God. We explore his major areas of research in the New Testament and early Christianity (commentaries, apocryphal, and archaeological studies). Along the way, David tells the story of how God gradually led him into Wesleyan theology and Methodism, helping him see the deep coherence between his scholarly commitments and a tradition shaped by holiness, grace, and discipleship. This episode is warm and genuinely fun—a conversation with someone whose work has made a lasting contribution to both the academy and the church.

  • Why a New Systematic Theology? with Tom McCall & Jason Vickers
    Apr 30 2026

In this episode of the More to the Story Podcast, I’m joined by theologians Tom McCall and Jason Vickers to discuss their new book, Love Divine: A Wesleyan Systematic Theology, recently published by Eerdmans.

Why write a full-scale and one-volume Wesleyan systematic theology now? Tom and Jason reflect on what gave rise to this project, and on the need for a doctrinal work that is both deeply rooted in the Wesleyan tradition and fully engaged with the broader Christian theological conversation. They explain how Love Divine seeks to bring clarity and rigor to core Christian doctrines while remaining attentive to Scripture, the classical creeds, and the needs of the contemporary church.

We also talk about the audiences they had most clearly in view. The book is written to serve students who are being formed theologically for ministry, as well as pastors who need a reliable doctrinal resource that connects theology to preaching, teaching, worship, and Christian life.
