Why The Process Matters More Than The Result

Wanting the result is easy. Wanting the process is where everything gets real. We start with a blunt James Clear quote that cuts through excuses: if you don’t want to live the lifestyle, release yourself from the desire. From there, we connect the same principle to the stuff we’re all living right now: kids’ sports schedules, the way parenting time moves without a pause button, and how quickly “we’ll have time later” turns into years gone by.

We also get practical about boundaries, especially around screen time. One of us shares what it looks like to trust a teenager with freedom, watch it go sideways, and then reintroduce limits without shame, just clarity. That leads into the bigger point for adults: nobody is coming to shut the TV off, plan your meals, or force you to work out. If you want change, you have to build accountability on purpose, through your marriage, your friendships, or a coach who won’t sell you a fantasy.

Then we tackle the question we hear all the time: “What’s your secret?” The honest answer is years, consistency, and compound progress. We talk about why most people grind for 35 to 60 days and drift for 300, how to replace autopilot with intentional choices, and why comparison and “genetics” talk often become a cover for avoiding the work. The goal isn’t a perfect plan, it’s becoming the kind of man who follows through.

If you’re ready to get around better people and stay the course, we also share what we’re building with the Rising Tribes Network and how to join the waitlist. Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs it, and leave a review so more men can find the conversation.

Ep. 46. We're Building More Than A Podcast

We built Rising Tribes because we kept watching solid men with faith and families lose the same fight quietly and alone. We share what finally changed for us and how we’re building a structured network so you’re ready when life gets hard, not scrambling after it does.

    • why strong men still feel broken at their “peak”
    • choosing your circle on purpose instead of by default
    • rebuilding community after seasons change like sports, marriage, and kids
    • the four pillars: faith, family, fitness, and leadership
    • the bar graph problem: one area rises while another drops
    • preparing for darkness, blind spots, and hard seasons
    • how the platform works: monthly themes, weekly challenges, cohorts, and coaching
    • creating a space for real talk, high standards, and no judgment

    Ep.45 Summer Smash Recap & Q&A

1st Phorm Summer Smash looks like a party on the surface, but what grabbed us was the standard underneath it: thousands of people training, rucking, sweating, and still leaving a massive facility without trash on the ground because everyone owns the culture. We start there, with Jake fresh off the trip to St Louis and Braxston breaking down what the First Phorm community gets right about leadership, shared values, and why “the people make the party” is not just a slogan.

Then we pivot into the real heart of the conversation. Jake puts Braxston in the hot seat with 10 questions on faith, disappointment, marriage, fatherhood, discipline, and purpose. We talk about what it feels like when your plan does not happen, how submitting your goals to God can change your direction, and why success starts looking a lot less like recognition and a lot more like presence: date night, kids’ games, a strong marriage, and choosing the hard right over the easy wrong.

We also unpack identity and reinvention, from being a 333-pound NFL lineman to building a new life as a runner and hybrid athlete. The physical change is real, but the mental shift comes first: replacing the jersey identity with a values-based identity and daily structure you control. Along the way we hit practical discipline tips, nutrition preparation, why discipline does not guarantee success, and the career lesson we both swear by: talent can take you places your character cannot keep you.

If you take one thing from our time together, let it be the bonus challenge: stop procrastinating and jump start now.

Subscribe to Rising Tribes, share this with a friend who needs a push, and leave a quick review. What’s the one step you’re taking today that your future self will thank you for?

Ep. 43: Training Before And After Kids

We talk honestly about how training changes once you become a parent and why “no time” usually means “no freedom.” We share the mindset shifts, tiny workout tactics, and family conversations that help us stay consistent while leading our kids by example.
    • training before kids as freedom disguised as discipline
    • building workouts around real windows instead of ideal plans
    • using mornings and micro-workouts to stay consistent
    • navigating sleep deprivation and early-parent seasons safely
    • shifting motivation from performance to leadership at home
    • reducing resentment through clear spouse communication and weekly planning
    • creating a healthy family culture around movement and food
    • handling the teen years when kids test boundaries and choose for themselves
    • identity-based habits and keeping promises to yourself

Ep. 42 Freedom Or Comfort: Lesson From The Wolf And The Dog

We read the fable of the dog and the wolf and use it to figure out why comfort can feel safe while still quietly costing us freedom. We get honest about the collars we wear, how fear and approval shape our choices, and why vulnerability and self-advocacy matter in real life.
    • reading the dog and the wolf and focusing on the collar
    • freedom versus comfort and why neither path is easy
    • collars in modern life: salary, titles, relationships, faith, routines
    • discipline versus rigidity and the trap of performative routines
    • chasing approval and fearing what people will say
    • choosing the short pain of truth over the long pain of lying
    • comparing our insides to everyone else’s outsides
    • Chelsea’s basal cell story, community support, and getting checked
    • identifying your collar and building an action plan to remove it

Ep.41: Q/A Prime Habits And What They Cost

Q/A about the habits that shape your “prime,” the kind of motivation that fades, and the practices that quietly compound over years. We get personal about marriage, fitness, faith, shame, and what it looks like to keep taking steps when life changes seasons.
    • redefining “prime” as who we are now, not just peak performance
    • losing the prove-them-wrong fire and looking for healthier motivation
    • chasing the excitement of the unknown instead of fear of being judged
    • prioritizing a spouse as a compounding life habit
    • fitness as a long-term engine for identity, business, and opportunity
    • being disciplined in the gym while other areas drift out of control
    • using alcohol to shut off an overactive mind and what that hid

    • “You will never be put to shame” as a turning point
    • celebrating our daughter’s baptism and what steady faith looks like in kids
