He sheltered a Christian priest named Amphibalus, which led to his own conversion and eventual martyrdom. Despite being arrested and tortured for his faith, Saint Alban remained steadfast. His story includes a miraculous crossing of a river and the conversion of his executioner. His memory is honored at the site of his martyrdom, where a cathedral was later built.
