In this atmospheric wartime adventure, Sherlock Holmes steps out of retirement for one final, high‑stakes mission. As Europe stands on the brink of conflict, Holmes and Watson confront a dangerous espionage plot that threatens national security. With characteristic wit, sharp deduction, and a touch of poignancy, the great detective proves that even in his later years, his brilliance has not dimmed.

Originally broadcast in 1969, His Last Bow blends intrigue, patriotism, and classic Holmesian charm—an essential listen for fans of the legendary duo.

These radio plays are a delight to me. Basil Rathbone is the epitome of Sherlock Holmes in both looks and performance, and Nigel Bruce is an enjoyable (if slightly comedic) Watson. The individual episodes vary in length between 16 to 32 minutes, but are always enjoyable. The old sponsorship messages at the start and end of each episode are bearable, and serve as a reminder that these radio plays were recorded in the 1930s and 40s. The annoying addition is the modern adverts included at the start and end of each episode, but that is the annoyance you have to deal with to have so many episodes in 'podcast' episodic format.

Basil Rathbone starred as Holmes in approximately 220 radio episodes between 1939 and 1946, with 120+ episodes in this collection. I understand that a lot of episodes were lost, and the audio quality of some others is probably too degraded to include in an Audible collection.

This is a gem of a collection if you enjoy radio plays and Sherlock Holmes. Just skip the annoying intro and end adverts.

Basil Rathbone IS Sherlock Holmes!
