Yaakov Avinu sought to reveal to his sons the time of Moshiach's arrival, which was destined to unfold upon the Jewish People's entry into the Land of Israel. Had the brothers merited the promise of "achishena" (I will hasten it, the redemption could have occurred even earlier, within their lifetime. However, the Divine Presence departed from him, as an everlasting redemption must be achieved through their own efforts and spiritual toil, rather than through a revelation from above disclosing its timing.
