About this listen

Please note: this series contains adult themes, strong language and scenes which some people may find upsetting. Listener discretion is advised.

One woman’s fiercely vivid account of being stalked, an 'invisible violence' that poisons her life.

When X sees Lily on stage, he begins an imaginary affair of 13 years, and counting. He’s crossed oceans, posed as her colleague. He even bought a suit for their 'wedding'. But they’ve never met.

Dancer and film-maker Lily Baldwin takes us into her world – the insidious fear, legal challenges, survival techniques. This series asks what’s at stake when we’re seen.

We want followers but we don’t want to be followed. And, without obvious blood, how can we measure this invisible violence?

A Ventureland production for Audible Originals.

Useful resources if you or a friend/family member is being stalked:

If you are in immediate danger or fear a threat of harm, call your national police emergency number.

Lily advises: 'We started STOP STALKING US because there was not enough guidance on where and how to get help. This is what we want to change. While that change is happening, we are sharing the best advice available from experts, while acknowledging that not all options are available to everyone in an equitable way. This needs to change, too.

If you are being stalked, we recommend you begin talking with law enforcement to create a log of evidence. Stalking laws and definitions differ from country to country and state to state, so local law enforcement can help you determine your next steps. For statistics to be accurate, we need stalking to be reported.

We’re sharing below helpful resources for some regions with programs in operation.'

The premise is interesting and I want to hear how it plays out l, but I’ve suffered through 3 episodes now and the writer is just so over dramatic. It’s read like a creative writing piece from high school or poetry (but utterly awful).

I’d much prefer a straightforward account of what happened than this. Not sure if I care enough to slog through the rest of it.

This illustrates so many of my experiences - Trying to explain this to others is so difficult, Lilly manages to tell her story so well.

I have had a stalker for eight years

Thank you so much for sharing your story, it's so very important to denouce such crimes, and for all of us humans, to deal with this kind of criminal acts that societies all over the world hide and even support. I would call silent violence, hidden violence and to start with, we've got to EXPOSE every ounce it, raise awareness and punish it. This is not a minor criminal act, this is a kind of murder. People and living creatures ARE NOT objects, but societies insists in objectifying people, bc it serves them, that's why twisted minds dare to seek to control people and/or living creatures and commit crimes. We've got to raise our voices and do whatever it takes to fight against hidden violence, wherever it is. Reality, however harsh, must be faced with honesty, with truth. Nothing like ugly truths being exposed to fight back huge systematic lies, such as only physical violence being truly harmful. We need Thuth, denouncing, fighting and punishing. One ugly truth: most mentally ill people were shaped AT HOME, by their parents, family or guardians. It was all aided by covering ugly truths and fostering LIES, LIES, LIES, etc. We all have to EXPOSE THEM!

A must hear!!!

This is an interesting 1st hand account of long term stalking, through the eyes and experiences of an American. I would urge listeners to push past the first episode, which will divide people into those who like a BBC doc style of narrative telling and those who don't mind the US flair for drama, this series very much placed in the second camp but you can settle into it if you push through. This is a story of emotional trauma, told through the creative passions of an artist. I have empathy for Lily and her (what seems like) unending plight. The fact her perpetrator is European, lends an almost unique situation, where there isn't a place in the world she can truly feel 'safe'.

Interesting true story on the impact of stalking.

Incredible lady for sharing her very personal story and in such an engaging way. Definitely worth a listen, hopefully Lily’s goal of getting more recognition for stalking victims and punishment for the predators will be improved by listeners sharing this podcast and her other projects.

Lily is brilliant!
