Summary

In 1999, Renny Harlin made a shark movie on the same soundstages as Titanic, cast Samuel L. Jackson and LL Cool J, and then blew the whole set up when he was done. The result is a movie that has absolutely no business being this entertaining — and yet... Here we are. Greg and Joe travel back to a perfect year for movies to cover Deep Blue Sea, officially renamed Super Smart Sharks approximately four minutes into this episode.

This week: the greatest surprise death in monster movie history, an animatronic shark that accidentally launched itself through a ceiling, a director's commentary where Samuel L. Jackson openly admits he spent most of the shoot on a golf course, and a USA Today review that uses the phrase "cheese barge." Also featuring a very important voice memo from David Hallgren, who has somehow already seen this movie twice in 2026.

As with every episode, this is the conversation that needed to happen about this movie. Also: Drinking Games, Joe's Back of the Box (buckle up), Very Important Questions, and a definitive ranking of the greatest shark movies ever made — which gets more contentious than you'd expect.
