Old pals Tim and Michael saddle up for The Cheyenne Social Club (1970), the third screen pairing of old chums Jimmy Stewart and Henry Fonda—and the third film in our series exploring Jimmy's westerns with equally prominent co-stars.
Directed by the legendary Gene Kelly—better known for dancing through movie musicals than directing westerns—The Cheyenne Social Club gives us Stewart and Fonda at their most relaxed and charming. Stewart stars as a Texas cowboy who unexpectedly inherits a Wyoming establishment with a rather unusual reputation, while Fonda plays his longtime friend and reluctant partner in the ensuing misadventures.
Joining them is an outstanding supporting cast that includes Shirley Jones, Sue Ane Langdon, and Elaine Devry. It's a western comedy with plenty of heart, built on the easy chemistry between two Hollywood legends who genuinely enjoyed working together.
