Colin Salmon and Stephen Fry star in this brand new adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes adventure, The Hound of the Baskervilles, reinterpreted as a dark folk horror by best-selling authors George Mann and Cavan Scott.

An ancient curse has awoken on Dartmoor, the members of the Baskerville family hunted by a spectral hound of Hell. With Sherlock Holmes busy in London, Doctor John Watson is sent to protect the new lord of the manor as fear and superstition run wild in the ancient countryside. Can Watson overcome his own terror to discover the truth behind the legend before the hound strikes again?

Had I been less familiar with the story, and not such a ridiculously-avid fan of the Clive Merrison/ Michael Williams productions of the Sherlock Holmes canon, I think that I would have really enjoyed this audio mini-series. As it was, it felt a little over-produced at times if possible. The storyline struck me as less fluid, and the dialogue more forced, than in earlier renditions of the story. That being said, I still generally enjoyed the audio experience and was intrigued by the slight deviations from the original plot.

I am a sucker for good-quality audio dramatisations and so await the news of further productions in this series with interest and an open mind.

Thankyou and keep up the good work!

Enjoyable but not groundbreaking

I am not opposed to adaptions of classics this one is very well done. extra characters and different twists makes it for a damn good programme. Thoroughly enjoyed it. If you want the original this ain't for you. But I really enjoyed it.

interesting version

Thank you so much. It still shares the life out of me. It was well put together - the mix of sound, accent and exclamations was very good.

I’m not so keen on this adaptation. They didn’t need to kill the Spaniel. Great actors and acting.

Great acting!
