For parents who feel exhausted trying to reconnect with their child & feeling stuck. Nothing you do seems to be working and you’re ready to dive deep, get vulnerable, and take on a different approach.

Here, on the “The Reflective Parent” podcast, we start by looking at ourselves and begin to make small shifts for change. When we better understand ourselves, we are better equipped to engage with the family and its unique dynamics. Small changes in your own behavior and way of thinking will have a big impact on your family dynamics, your relationship with your partner, and even the behavior of your teen or pre-teen. When you change, they change, and you’ll see them adopt better strategies that align with your family value system.

I’m your host, parent coach Jason Denham. With nearly 20 years of experience in family dynamics, including 14 years living with adolescents and 2 years managing sober living for adults, I’ve worked with diverse personalities and diagnoses in families across the globe. My background spans wilderness therapy, residential treatment, transitional living, foster care, and sober living. Since 2021, I’ve been a parent coach and continue to support families, drawing from my own experiences with recovery, ADHD, and epilepsy. These insights help me provide practical tips and actionable parenting strategies for those families facing similar challenges.

“The Reflective Parent” podcast is a place where parents like you can come to seek community, connection, confidence and competence in deepening your family relationships, increasing your peace, feeling less exhausted, and more motivated to teach.

  • S2 E4 —Parental Surveillance and Trust Erosion
    Jul 1 2026

The apps promising to keep your kiddo safe are doing something else underneath. Life360, Bark, mSpy, Qustodio, Norton Family, the whole category of parental surveillance technology sells you peace of mind and delivers a family system built on watching instead of connecting.

This is the mirror of Season 2 Episode 2, Cheater Buster. Same business model. Same false promise. This time the kiddos are the ones on the receiving end, and their nervous systems are still developing.

Three things these apps are doing to kiddos right now. The constant low-grade activation of being watched. The erosion of the practice of trust, which is a muscle that only grows when it is used. And the reciprocal lesson, where kids who grow up surveilled grow up to surveil their future partners and their future kiddos. The surveillance economy has built its next generation of customers.

The package is a phone app. The product is mistrust packaged as love. The relationship is the only safety that holds.

Your invitation this week. Sit with your kiddo and have one direct conversation. Tell them what monitoring you currently do, why you do it, what you wish you could let go of, and what they would have to do or show you to earn the trust to release it. Then listen. Listen long enough to hear what actually comes back, all the way to silence on the other side of their answer. Most parents have never had this conversation out loud.

  • Trust, Fear, and the Cheater Economy
    Jun 3 2026

There's an app called Cheater Buster. It promises to tell you whether your partner is cheating. Hundreds of thousands of people use it.

This week on The Reflective Parent Podcast I want to walk through it with you. I think there is a pattern under this app and a pattern under a lot of other products like it. I want to talk about what it does to the person who installs it. And what it teaches the kids in that household who are watching.

I'm going to be a little direct in this one. The grown-up version of this pattern is what I see in marriages. The teenage version is what I see in my coaching practice every week. Same shape. Different generation.
