    When Travel Stops Feeling Magical

We talk a lot about how much we love this life… and we do. We really do.

But sometimes, the magic fades a little.

In this episode, we’re opening up about a harder stretch of full-time travel. Since mid-November, it’s been one thing after another. Breakdowns, flat tires, our RV fridge completely giving out… and trying to figure all of that out while constantly on the move.

Because when something goes wrong out here, it’s not just inconvenient. It’s figuring out where to go, who to trust, how to fix it, and how to keep moving forward without your usual support system.

We also talk about what it looks like when sickness hits on the road. Especially with kids. No regular doctor, unexpected costs, canceled plans, and long travel days that are just plain hard.

And then there’s the little things you don’t always think about. Rising gas and food prices changing how we travel. Cutting back on eating out.

This lifestyle is still something we’re incredibly grateful for. But this episode is about the reality behind it. The moments when it feels heavy. The days when the magic takes a back seat.

And why, even then, we still choose it. 🤍

RVing in Winter: What We Learned the Hard Way

    Winter RV life hits different.

In this episode, we’re sharing what an unexpected ice storm taught us about staying safe, protecting your rig, and keeping your sanity when temperatures drop fast. From the “unhook and drain” rule that can save your pipes, to the little things that make a big difference in staying warm, we’re breaking down what actually worked for us (and what we’d never do again).

We also talk through simple ways to handle moisture, avoid common cold-weather mistakes, and prepare your RV so you’re not scrambling when the freeze hits.

If you’ve ever wondered how RV life holds up in winter… this one’s for you.

  • Tales From Our RV Window
    Mar 6 2026

    Send a text

In this episode of TravelEssary, we’re recording outside of Texas for the very first time after two long travel days that brought us to Alabama and yes, the scenery (and accents) have officially shifted. But today’s stories? They’re still straight out of Texas campground life.

When you live full-time in an RV with near 360-degree windows, you don’t just travel, you observe. And campground life is its own kind of entertainment.

We’re sharing what we see from our RV window, including:

    • The wild differences in rigs, budgets, and setup styles
    • Multi-day “garden oasis” setups (that look like they require a blueprint)
    • Outdoor laundry situations
    • Totes. So many totes.
    • And what happens when Texas windstorms meet awnings and canopies

We also talk about how watching other campers has influenced our own RV setup, from adding a rear stabilizer to finally buying an outdoor rug, and how different parks shape the experience. We compare community-focused campgrounds like Thousand Trails and KOA with more spacious stays at Corps of Engineers and state parks.

Full-time RV travel constantly teaches us something, sometimes through our own mistakes, and sometimes by simply watching what unfolds outside our window.

Season five is carrying us beyond Texas, and we’re just getting started.

The Systems That Save Our Sanity on the Road

In this episode of TravelEssary, we’re pulling back the curtain on the systems that keep our full-time RV life peaceful, functional, and (mostly) smooth.

Living in a small space as a family means we can’t just “wing it.” Over time, we’ve built simple habits that help everything run better, from daily tidy-ups and giving every item a home, to making sure each person has their own space to breathe.

We share what moving days really look like for us, including the roles everyone plays and how we’re usually able to break down and set up in about an hour to an hour and a half. We talk about how we scout routes, plan travel days around our kids, and prep ahead whenever possible so departure mornings don’t feel chaotic.

Once we land somewhere new, we have a few go-to habits: finding the nearest grocery store, checking out the post office, looking up churches, and visiting local visitor centers to uncover hidden gems. We plan, but we also leave room for weather shifts, sickness, and those unexpected detours that come with life on the road.

We also touch on the work systems that support this lifestyle, truck maintenance rhythms, communication, meal prep before runs, and how structure actually creates more freedom.

Because RV life isn’t just about where you park.
It’s about the systems that make it work.

The Unexpected Perks of Full-Time RV Travel

In this episode of TravelEssary, we’re talking about the perks of full-time RV travel that we didn’t fully expect when we first hit the road.

We share how life has slowed down in the best ways, from more flexible sleep schedules and lingering family meals to spontaneous walks and everyday adventures that don’t require much planning. We talk about how traveling full-time has changed the way we spend time together, divide responsibilities, and connect as a family.

We also dive into one of our favorite surprises: the people. From campground neighbors to chance conversations, community has shown up for us in ways we didn’t anticipate. And of course, we touch on the practical perks too... no house to maintain, no yard work, and a lot less stuff to manage.

While RV life comes with its fair share of challenges, including constant maintenance and problem-solving, this episode focuses on the ways this lifestyle has enriched our lives and shifted our perspective. It’s an honest, encouraging look at the good that’s come from choosing a life that travels with us.

10 Lessons Full-Time Travel has Taught Us

In this season finale of TravelEssary, we’re pressing pause to reflect on what full-time travel has taught us (so far).

After a full season on the road, we’re sharing 10 lessons we’ve learned through experience, trial and error, and a lot of windshield time. From redefining what “home” means, to learning when to slow down, stay flexible, and rest instead of rush, these lessons have shaped how we travel and how we live.

We talk about the unexpected value of community on the road, why small towns often leave the biggest impression, and how choosing memories over milestones has changed our perspective as a family.

We also give a sneak peek into Season 5, which kicks off next week, with deeper conversations around RV life, more detailed location insights, and a few special guests joining us along the way.

If you’re traveling full-time, dreaming about it, or just curious what life on the road really teaches you, this episode is for you.

5 Essential Rules for Respectful Traveling

Travel is not just about the places we visit. It's also about how we move through them and the way our choices affect the people around us.

In this episode of TravelEssary, we share five essential rules for respectful traveling that we believe make the experience better for everyone. These are simple, practical habits shaped by our own time on the road and conversations with fellow travelers.

We talk about being mindful of shared spaces, practicing patience and kindness, and paying attention to how our actions impact foot traffic, roadways, and public areas. We also discuss the importance of honoring local cultures and customs, along with the responsibility we all share to leave places clean and cared for.

This episode is a reminder that respectful travel does not require perfection. It starts with awareness, consideration, and a willingness to think beyond ourselves as we explore new places.
